My artist statement:
Dancing for me has always been about expressing a feeling through movement. Words alone cannot capture an emotion as well combining words with movement. Likewise, emotions are not solely movements but need to be expressed through words. Sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and I think when movement is coupled with text, be it in the form of poems, spoken word, or song lyrics, it adds another dimension to the sensory and semantic experience.
I like to investigate complex emotions that are especially hard to convey through words alone. For instance, the feelings of searching for something without knowing exactly what you’re looking for. When people view my work, I want them to ideally relate to what they are seeing and reflect on their emotional experiences in a new light.
