Across the Street from the Original. Final Project by Nai’ya Willis-Hogan

Artists Statement
This project has evolved so much so that it had to be known.

ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE ORIGINAL.

BECAUSE WHY NOT.
I hate racism, sexism, transphobia, ableism, and hegemonic oppressive structures that confuse people about the real issues.
I hate that I, as a Black femme, am expected to talk about my Black femme identity.
I hate that I, a Black femme, felt that I had to question why I wanted to talk about my Black femme identity.
Gentrification is destroying the land that made me, me and that pisses me off.
I hate feeling the need to defend or explain my work.
Healing. That’s all it is.
