Artist Statement

When I dance, I am speaking with the words of my body. I have access to all of the brains inside of my muscles and my bones. I dance to tell the stories that I can’t articulate yet. Dancing is my way of initiating dialogue with my body and performing brings other people into the conversation. My technique highlights the pedestrian and the percussive by amplifying the movements I use daily with repetition and tempo changes. My movements are built from everyday motions because I have spent the majority of my life dancing while checking out a library book or waiting at the bus stop or scoping out deals at the grocery store. I dance because it feels so, so good to move. I dance because my body is designed to do much more than sit around.
