Take either of the Text and Movement explorations from class and develop further.
POST BELOW
Zoë—Legalization of Gay Marriage
The movements were taken from a list of facts related to the event: June 2015, Unexpected, Rainbow Flag, NPR, Breaking News, Straight People.
I really appreciate that even though I was disappointed that I couldn’t come up with a new idea after the first one we did in class, people still liked it. I also definitely felt like the words expressed observable reality and the movement expressed emotion, which was super interesting and something I want to explore more.
Charlotte Jones:
I created two pieces. One with Text from Sakespeare’s Pericles with movement inspired by the word and connotations of feminism 1) strength, 2) attack, 3)resistance, 4)struggle, 5) power
The text from the second piece I wrote about a personal experience to discovering my friend’s father on the news as his home, and office were raided by the FBI. My movements were inspired by facts about the new event. 1)raid, 2)April 3) justice 4)papers/documents 5)Messy
Joel Choi: Storytime: Just another lunch
My historical event was Michael Cohen’s testimony hearing and I was most fascinated by how I can portray numbers through my movement. I kind of stumbled on the words and didn’t have a fancy poem, but I kinda liked the informal aspect of it.
Naiya/ The Bottom Line
My piece is inspired by the text at the bottom of an email reciept from PayPal notifying me about being charged for my monthly Apple Music service. I chose the two and three letter words from the message and made a movement for each of those. This was really fun to do and I realize that working with text is super interesting.
Noah-Election Night 2008
I took this piece from the writing workshop we did in class. I took facts from the night Obama was elected and then layered the text from my own personal experience of watching the election at my friend’s house. I loved the feeling of combining the two and creating a coherent final product from 2 different sources.
Esther Hwang // Communion by bell hooks
In my choreography I made movements based on my experience with the MRSA epidemic in South Korea in 2015, focusing on ideas of city sights, population, contagion, and wearing masks. The text I chose comes from bell hooks’ book Communion. This text went surprisingly well with these movements, putting theoretical concepts into visual, physical, and movement form.
Emily: 9/11
Text and movement study on my personal memory of September 11th.
Obuchi: 2016 Election Night
This piece focuses on the reactions my family and I had to the 2016 election results.
